Case Study – Royal Flying Doctor Service

South Australian Headquarters


Pro AV Solutions recently completed a state-of-the-art project for the newly built South Australian Headquarters for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. RFDS is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organizations in the world providing extensive primary health care and 24-hour emergency service to people over an area of 7.3 million square kilometres.

A new South Australian headquarters has been built by the Royal Flying Doctor Service, featuring aircraft hangers on the western side of the Adelaide Airport, which contains the incident rooms for the South Australian Operations. Pro AV Solutions supplied extensive AV throughout the building, including 75” interactive panels, 55” panels and a number of 10” displays.



The Royal Flying Doctor Service were looking to convey information to staff and clients in a seamless one platform solution, where data needed to come from multiple different sources and display selectively on the panels. Internal information included data from intranet and other medical related sources, as well as display the current locations of aircraft already in the air and information around them. The public displays include aircraft locations as well as marketing videos.

PADS4 was chosen to display information within the incident room, including real-time aircraft tracking, emergency services information and incident timing. By adding interactivity Pro AV allows mapping services within the displays. Next to the interactive digital dashboards, 19 Samsung 10” displays were deployed throughout the building to display time and incident critical information. These displays utilise the PADS4 HTML5 Viewers via the built-in SoC players. A total of 45 displays provides real-time critical incident updates and play a critical role in the RFDS emergency service.



The completion of the RFDS project allowed the ability to bring in multiple data sources and use them on different screens. PADS4 was chosen as RFDS digital signage platform, based on the ease of customization, scalability, flexibility and the outstanding security features. Effective communication was crucial, in order to run successful Operations and build employee engagement.

This was achieved by providing consistent information to those in frontline roles who are delivering service to their customers in a daily basis. Pro AV Solutions (SA) were able to deliver a state-of-the-art, flexible Digital Signage System solution that is highly reliable and resilient, and provides multiple levels of redundancy – crucial in a customer facing and time sensitive environment. The deployment of the digital signage system has had a big impact on the efficiency of their monitoring and maintenance.
