Case Study – University of Adelaide

Australian Institute for Machine Learning

THE BRIEF

The Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML) at the University of Adelaide is a key research institution in machine learning and is ranked number one in the world for three key areas of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Pro AV Solutions were commissioned by the University to integrate their new learning centre.

The unique AIML Buildling on the site of the old Women’s Health Centre at the Royal Adelaide Hospital was beautifully restored to provide a home for Australia’s first institute dedicated to research in artificial intelligence, computer vision and machine learning. This new fit out included an open plan functional space, a boardroom, four meeting rooms and the robotics room known as “The Lab”.

THE SOLUTION

AIML researchers are advancing understanding in areas such as Robotic Vision, Medical Machine Learning, Trusted Autonomous Systems, Surveillance and Tracking, Photogrammetry, and 3D Modelling. As such the facility needed high-end, innovative and powerful technology to match this world-leading institution.

With the state of the art Samsung 1.5mm pixel pitch LED video wall, the function space is certainly a show stopper. Showcasing the latest updates from the AIML, the LED is a stunning solution to present the full range of content. With two column speakers either side of the large video wall, the function space is a flexible and functional environment for the University for all their events and presentations.

The Board room is an elegant yet innovative flexible large meeting room solution. With a large 98” NEC 4K Display in the room, detailed presentations are crystal clear all while video conferencing. Microphones and camera are located straight under the display with the Crestron Saros Sound Bar picking up all audio and video on the room clearly.

The table top control panel has an intuitive UX so it’s easy to turn on and off the audio visual technology as well as make adjustments to the sound and camera. In a first-of-its kind deployment, AV-enabled spaces utilise Crestron’s cloud-based control system, Virtual Control, for AV automation throughout the facility.

The general meeting rooms are highly functional yet simplified to make it easy for staff to use all while remaining reliable and quick. With a 65” NEC display and a Crestron Saros soundbar with built in camera, staff can easily turn on the system via the touch panel and connect their own devices for presentations and conference calls.

“Lot Fourteen provides unparalleled collaborative opportunities, and to have this institute in proximity of companies across other high-tech and high-growth sectors is exciting for our state,” SA Premier Steven Marshall
