University of Adelaide - Immersive Technology Lab
Details

Pro AV Solutions in partnership with Dicolor Australia has delivered a state-of-the-art audiovisual system for the University of Adelaide’s new Australian Lab for Immersive Technologies (ALIT), creating one of Australia’s most advanced environments for immersive learning and research.
Located within the Nexus 10 building, ALIT brings together virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI), and data-driven simulation into a single, integrated environment where students, researchers and industry partners can explore new frontiers in human-computer interaction, simulation modelling and digital performance.
At the centre of the space, Pro AV Solutions designed and integrated a 2.7 m × 7.8 m high-resolution Dicolor LED wall, supported by Extron control and DTP signal distribution for intuitive operation and seamless performance. Complementing the main display, Sony digital signage powered by Onelan media players delivers dynamic content and real-time communication across the lab.
Despite a compact footprint, the lab was structured into distinct zones optimised for research, teaching, and demonstrations. Each zone can be adapted for different use cases - from group learning to motion-tracked simulation.
Through close collaboration with the University’s project team, Pro AV Solutions delivered an immersive visual platform that combines technical precision with ease of use, giving the institution a future-ready foundation for innovation in immersive research, teaching, and industry collaboration.
Pro AV Solutions delivered the audiovisual infrastructure that enables Realities Extended, the University’s in-house immersive technologies group, to design and deploy custom software and hardware experiences for education, research, and collaboration. All the interactive software shown in the video below has been developed by the Realities Extended team.
The Australian Lab for Immersive Technologies is designed to support academic research, industry collaboration, performance, and teaching.
Key Technologies
A 2.7 m × 7.8 m fine-pitch LED wall forms the visual centrepiece, enabling large-scale immersive simulation, research visualisation, and collaboration.
Centralised control and seamless signal management ensure ease of use and reliability across complex content workflows. A dedicated control room provides full system programming over the physical volume.
Dynamic content delivery and real-time updates enhance communication and extend the immersive experience throughout the facility.
Our Solutions
Immersive LED Visual Platform
At the heart of the Australian Lab for Immersive Technologies is a Dicolor 2.7 m × 7.8 m LED display, designed for large-scale visualisation and simulation. The fine-pitch screen delivers exceptional brightness and colour accuracy, making it ideal for high-impact XR and AI applications.
It serves as a dynamic canvas for immersive teaching, data visualisation, and research demonstrations, setting a new benchmark for university-grade LED integration.
Seamless Control and System Integration
The Extron touch-panel control system provides a simple, intuitive interface for managing content, switching between sources, and controlling room modes.
Through DTP signal distribution, users can operate all displays and sources from a central control point, ensuring reliability and consistency. This design allows both educators and researchers to focus on experimentation rather than system operation.
Enhanced Communication and Digital Signage
A network of Sony 55-inch digital signage displays powered by Onelan media players keeps students and visitors connected to live research updates, events, and demonstrations.
This unified content network extends the immersive experience beyond the main display, ensuring visibility across the entire space.
Future-Ready Infrastructure and Support
Infrastructure cabling and signal pathways were designed to accommodate future expansion, supporting new sources, content workflows, and research tools.
The LED display is backed by a manufacturer-supported Service Level Agreement (SLA), ensuring consistent performance, uptime, and longevity.
